M48 Chaparral surface to air missile carrier. Mounted a quad MIM-72 Chaparral, the US Army's designation for ground launched Sidewinder air to air missiles, launch turret on M730 cargo carrier derived from the M113 APC. Operated along the M163 VADS as an interim tactical air defense system following the failure of the MIM-46 Mauler SAM. As an interim system, it served the US Army from 1969 through 1998. Exported on a very limited basis.
